My garden is windy Don’t forget mole crickets. Very destructive to gardens and a real problem in Florida..even the pythons won’t touch them (lol). We’re in a new build house and are now outside of our warranty (by over 12 months). The garden has been an issue since we moved in (2012) specifically with drainage. Whilst in the warranty, we had the drainage re done and this was eventually completed in spring 2015 (outside warranty but delayed on new build company’s part due to waiting for warmer weather and deadlines on the new houses on the estate). Fast forward a year, the garden still doesn’t drain properly. We’ve got in a professional to give us a quote on sorting it and was willing to pay ourselves to get it sorted. It’s come back at £7k to fix and landscape it better than what it’s been done when we first moved in. Landscaper is suggesting that the soil is the problem and the drainage not being right. I was willing to pay a bit to sort it but now I’m annoyed that we’ve paid all this money for a house and basically haven’t got what we want; what’s worse, we need to pay around £7k to fix without adding any value. Have we got a legal case to take this back to the new build company? I hear from neighbours that they’ve got similar problems with drainage and gardens being ruined, but not sure if we individually have a case, or if we have a collective claim as it seems that when they’ve developed the site, they’ve not accounted for the fact they’re building into a hill. The drainage is shocking. I’m pissed off as this was our « dream home » and for 3 years we haven’t had a proper garden. Any recommendations of solicitors who deal with this kind of thing would be very welcome. My garden is on a steep slope The grey garden slug, Derocerus reticulatum, is a major pest in gardens throughout the Willamette Valley. This slug eats a leaf in a garden.  (Photo: Robin Rosetta of the Oregon Stat) Very interested in this phenomenon. I’m in Virginia and just about every gardener in my neighborhood is complaining about their tomatoes this year. My sister who is a veteran gardener commented to me that she got her first ripe tomato in mid-July. She anticipated the usual progression of ripening tomatoes but the ripening just stopped. It took several weeks more for the tomatoes to ripen. Heading somewhere? Plan your trip with our destination guides to our favorite public gardens, hotels, restaurants, and shops. Sam wants to build a garden fence to protect a rectangular 400 square-foot planting area. His next-door neighbor agrees to pay for half of the fence that borders her property; Sam will pay the rest of the cost. What are the dimensions of the planting area that will minimize Sam’s cost to build the fence? (You may leave your answer as a square root; you don’t have to find a decimal result.) Will it take much looking after? Raised beds can be much easier to look after than borders and you won’t need to get on all fours to tend them. The rest of this garden is given over to paving, which will only need an occasional sweep. There are several reasons for poor garden drainage. On new housing estates, it is often caused by compacted soil as a result of builders’ lorries and trucks. This combined with the mixing of sub-soil and topsoil when all the trenches and foundations were excavated often leads to a heavy, wet plot. Just joined but looking for some advice please on the garden which has dying grass – yellow, dead and some green. If you’ve never grown anything before, start small with just a few plants, herbs or flowers. Once you’ve successfully grown and harvested a few foods you will gain confidence and be ready to expand your indoor garden. And while I’ve listed some of the easier plants to start with don’t be afraid to experiment, I’ve had readers successfully grow potatoes in their apartment. I love to garden; but am still a bit of a novice. I need all the help I can get. Oh my gosh I’m so sorry this happened to you! How discouraging. I hope you are able to enjoy at least some produce from your small garden by your house. And I certainly hope next year is much, much better! Remedies: Water more! Set up a small irrigation system to water for you at regular intervals. Add shade cloth to garden beds to help reduce water evaporation. Mix more clay or soil into your garden bed to improve its ability to hold water. Adding mulch may also help plants conserve water. I’m sad you’ve had such trouble with your garden this year. I want to suggest you research the use of chemtrails in your area. These are easy to see in the sky when they’re being dropped from airplanes. We created a clear plastic roof over our garden to avoid their harmful chemicals. I believe it helped us with our first garden this year. Chemtrails are happening all over the world and have been for quite awhile. You can search “chemtrails” on the web. It is also called Geo-Engineering. On the Internet, a walled garden is an environment that controls the user’s access to Web content and services. In effect, the walled garden directs the user’s navigation within particular areas, to allow access to a selection of material, or prevent access to other material. An Internet service provider (ISP) may or may not allow users to select some of the Web sites contained or barred from the garden. Although the walled garden does not actually prevent users from navigating outside the walls, it makes it more difficult than staying within the environment. ISPs want to fence in users for a number of reasons. In 1999, for example, America Online (AOL) UK’s Kid Channel established a walled garden to prevent access to inappropriate Web sites. However, a common reason for the construction of walled gardens is for the profits they generate: vendors collaborate to direct consumer’s Internet navigation to each others’ Web sites and to try to keep them from accessing the Web sites of competitors. The most important benefit of fungi, however, is their capacity to create crumb structure in your soil. This is the most desirable characteristic for garden soils. A soil with crumb structure can breathe freely while allowing ease of root growth and ideal water infiltration. Earthworms move unimpeded through these aggregates, as do beneficial nematodes and microarthropods. You can plunge your hands deep into this medium and it smells good enough to eat. Gardening is pure pleasure when you have achieved this holy grail of good soil management, but it is not possible without nurturing your fungal workforce. Life Force® Instant Humus™ involves super-concentrated soluble humic acid granules. Two teaspoons of these black crystals are added to a watering can full of water, and applied to 10 m2 of soil.
