On the Internet, a walled garden is an environment that controls the user’s access to Web content and services. In effect, the walled garden directs the user’s navigation within particular areas, to allow access to a selection of material, or prevent access to other material. An Internet service provider (ISP) may or may not allow users to select some of the Web sites contained or barred from the garden. Although the walled garden does not actually prevent users from navigating outside the walls, it makes it more difficult than staying within the environment. ISPs want to fence in users for a number of reasons. In 1999, for example, America Online (AOL) UK’s Kid Channel established a walled garden to prevent access to inappropriate Web sites. However, a common reason for the construction of walled gardens is for the profits they generate: vendors collaborate to direct consumer’s Internet navigation to each others’ Web sites and to try to keep them from accessing the Web sites of competitors. Hi everyone, I have been feeding the birds in my garden for sometime, i don’t have a great variety of birds, mostly blackbird & sparrows but its nice to see them feeding. However, it looks like someone near by,( i don’t know who), has acquired a couple of cats¬† and i have seen them in my garden. I have a greyhound and I am sure that if the cats get chased by him they won’t be back in a hurry however my dog does not go in front garden as it is not secure. yesterday my worst fears were confirmed when I came in and found feathers and remains of a bird in the front garden > I am so upset, and I don’t know whether to carry on putting food out now. I have to say I am not a big fan of cats because of the sheer amount of harm they do to wildlife, a lot of problems could be solved by people keeping them in from dawn till dusk which is when they kill the most birds. From past experience things to deter cats never seem to work, but if anyone has any ideas i would be pleased to hear them ūüôā Rock the pots You’ve successfully kept a small pot of herbs alive and feel like you can expand out. To do this, buy a large garden pot and fill it with soil, add seedlings and water regularly. This works well for silverbeet, strawberries even tomatoes and chillies. Also check out miniature fruit trees which thrive in pots. Just joined but looking for some advice please on the garden which has dying grass – yellow, dead and some green. Office hours: 9-5:30pm Mon-Fri; 9-4pm Sat; Closed Sun (but if the weather is really lovely – we’re probably all out in the sunshine gardening, so please leave a message). Great article – I was having problems with a mole in my garden for many years, and tried various methods of getting rid but with no such luck! So a neighbour recommended that I used a traditional mole catcher, and called this guy www.lancashiremolecatcher.com The key to your small-space urban gardening success has a lot to do with the types of pots or planters you select. Photo:¬†Vegepod In the years I‚Äôve been advocating for the deep mulch method of gardening, I‚Äôve had a couple people ask if I‚Äôve ever had problems using non-organic hay. We get our hay from a variety of sources, and looking back, I‚Äôm almost certain some of it had to be sprayed at some point. However, as I always had thriving gardens by using our compost and hay mulch, I figured people who were concerned about non-organic hay or non-organic animal manure were worrying unnecessarily. I was wrong. Will it take much looking after? Raised beds can be much easier to look after than borders and you won‚Äôt need to get on all fours to tend them. The rest of this garden is given over to paving, which will only need an occasional sweep. failing garden featured garden gardening Plants vegetables Have you added a commercial potting mix or soil to your window boxes or planting beds that contains a moisture-retentive polymer? These ploymers soak up water and then slowing release back into the soil; they have a clear jelly like appearance when hydrated. Another possibility is slime molds, a single-celled organism, that lives on dead plant material, often in lawns or garden beds. If you suspect slime mold, take a sample to a nearby office of the state agriculture office for identification. You can dig around slime mold organisms and remove them from the garden and dispose of them, but the spores that begin their growth may remain in the garden and form new organisms. Unfortunately, gardeners are often obstinate optimists in such matters. They want to start composting NOW, don’t have any hoarded leaves and ‘Know I’m Wrong’. At least until rats show up wearing party hats and wielding little Wind-in-the-Willows dinnerware. What would you suggest to deter monkeys from raiding the garden? Protect your flower and vegetable gardens from pests and disease with organic… Here‚Äôs where all the answers are.¬† Well okay maybe not ALL the answers but if you‚Äôve got a gardening problem then our Organic Problem Solver section is a good place to start.¬† Just select one of the sections to get started. Mexican Feather Grass does lie down. If you don’t like this affect, you can give it a haircut with a few inches of the top to prevent flopping. It probably looks best if cut once or twice during the season. Also, be sure to pull out dead foliage new foliage emerges. However, if everything is pulling out easily, then the plant didn’t root well. Provide a well-drained soil (not too compact) and water regularly during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. Reduce watering after establishment. In terms of the sage, we haven’t heard of mole problems. Moles tend to eat grubs in lawns. Voles, however, love spring perennials. If you are concerned, we’d suggest raised garden beds or dig a trench around the area that you want protected. One of the most common questions I get asked as I traverse the country hosting garden workshops is, ‚Äúwhat do I do about possums?‚ÄĚ Question 3 is something that I‚Äôm starting to see as the bridge between ‚ÄúLength 12‚ÄĚ and ‚ÄúLength x‚ÄĚ from the original problem statement. ¬†If you can do it with 1000, then you can do it with x. ¬†Question 6 was also nice because some students used their formula to show that the garden length would not be a whole number if it used 2011 tiles, while other students made the reasonable observation that every garden tile number is even. Luba has to choose one of the buckets in order to water the garden as fast as possible (as mentioned above, each hour she will water some continuous subsegment of length ai if she chooses the i-th bucket). Help her to determine the minimum number of hours she has to spend watering the garden. It is guaranteed that Luba can always choose a bucket so it is possible water the garden. Most people will take some pride in their gardens to one degree or another. Of course, some will be keener than others to show off their green fingers, and will want to create a spectacle of colour through the addition of flowers and a well-manicured lawn. I think I poisoned my garden. For testing your soils contact your State University the Ag Extension. You can contact¬†¬†your state Department of Agriculture. You may want to try living mulches. They have been a great alternative for me, as well as improving the overall soil condition.
